Help Conor Walk Again
On the 9th of August 2014 at age 21, my whole world changed. I was out for a motorbike ride when I had an accident, broke my back and landed myself in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I basically had to learn everything again; from getting up out of bed and getting dressed, to transferring onto a couch and learning how to drive. It was a long hard journey, but I did it with one major goal in mind: to get home and start rebuilding my life with my fiancé.
I was told by my Doctors that I would never be able to walk again. Earlier this year, I proved them wrong. For the first time since the accident, I stood up and went for a walk down a Gold Coast footpath in a Re-Walk exoskeleton.
The ReWalk is an exoskeleton which allows spinal cord injured patients to stand up, walk and even climb stairs. It has huge health benefits in that it increases blood flow and circulation, bone density and decreases muscle spasms which would ordinarily result from inactivity.
It is amazing! I cannot describe how it felt to be able to get up and feel free after spending nearly two years sitting down in a wheelchair. I was finally able to be back at my level with my fiancé and give her a hug standing up. It is these simple things that I took for granted before my accident that I miss so much.
After spending some time on the Gold Coast testing out the ReWalk, I was determined to get one of my own. This is where I am now asking for help. The ReWalk comes with a hefty price tag of $130,000.00 AUD. Whilst this is a huge price tag, there is no price that I would put on being able to get up and walk wherever I want, whenever I want. I am now seeking assistance from those who can help me in purchasing my ReWalk; with any help (big or small!!) very much appreciated!!
